I, Me aur Main

A contemporary romantic drama of an handsome childish dude

Debutante director Kapil Sharma’s film is a Bollywood romance drama which has John Abraham, Prachi Desai and Chitrangda Singh in pivotal roles. I, Me aur Main movie review…

As the title, simple put, means I, me and myself, the protagonist of the film John Abraham is fill with thinking all about him, himself and his life.

Ever since his childhood he has been treated as a favorite by his mother (Zarina Wahab). So in instances of squabbles between the boy Ishaan and his elder sister, the mother always took the boy’s side. This mama’s boy has grown up to be a man who is always protected by his elder sister Shivani (Mini Mathur).

Ishaan (John Abraham), a handsome, lady charmer, who is an executive with a music company, scouting for new talent in Mumbai. He stays in his live-in girlfriend’s (Anushka played by Chitrangda Singh) posh flat.

The self centered attitude is Ishaan is such that he isn’t willing to pay the monthly bill to the milk man as ‘he doesn’t drink milk and even his morning coffee is black’. And this handsome man-child is acutely aware of his good looks and this flirt is aware of the the effect he has on women.

The grown up man Ishaan (who is still a man-child) takes his relationship with his girlfriend all for granted. Anushka is an extremely attractive, independent and successful woman, puts up with all this with the hope that some day, she is going to marry this man. Soon after, Anushka realizes that Ishaan is never serious about settling down with a family life, despite several attempts by her to get introduced to his parents in Pune.

Its enough now, and so Anushka now decides to call it a day, and dumps Ishaan.

Breaking her relationship with Ishaan, she insists he shifts somewhere else having packed all his stuff. Its struggle for this always protected boy Ishaan who manages to find a modest flat apartment in a middle class locality.

His new neighbour is Gauri (Prachi Desai), a stylist who is ever ready to fix electrical snags and ever willing to do it for the neighbours too. How nice to have such a cute and ever-willing to help neighbour.

Ishaan’s mother rushes to Mumbai, finds out that her son has to start from the beginning, settling in the new flat. The mother likes the cute neighbour instantly, and for this man-child it takes some time to realize that he is falling in love and feeling and even behaving like a responsible man.

John Abraham’s appearance as Ishaan the mean and selfish child-man is fine. However his limitations in emotional and serious situations are still visible. The stunning beauty Chitrangada as Anushka appears so real life like and is apt in her character. Prachi Desai’s character as the middle class neighbour is a bit unrealistic at several moments.

Its nice to see Zarina Wahab back as the overindulgent lovable mother and Mini Mathur in a fairly impressive role of Ishaan’s sister.

This short romance drama has a runtime 108 minutes. Its nice to see such off beat films attempted by the new breed of directors.

Overall, this film leaves a lot to be desired. Like, why would the extremely attractive, independent and successful Anushka wait for years for Ishaan to take her to his parents? In this dynamic world are there still such self-centered guys like Ishaan? And there is nothing explained about Gauri’s family background.
